Sea Turtle Foundation has made 10 sea turtle rescue stretchers thanks to a grant from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund. The stretchers mean that ill or injured turtles can be safely moved by volunteers during rescues. The stretchers are padded, waterproof and can be disinfected to avoid spreading disease. Turtles are held in place by adjustable Velcro straps, meaning they cannot injure themselves or their rescuers during transport.
Sea Turtle Foundation has distributed stretchers to sea turtle rescue groups around Australia. These organisations are using the stretchers to rescue stranded and injured turtles, transport turtles to rehabilitation centre’s, and train volunteers in safe sea turtle handling.
