AIMS Beach Sea Turtle Nesting Monitoring
Sea Turtle Foundation monitors sea turtles nesting at AIMS beach every year. AIMS beach is 35 kilometres south of Townsville, Queensland Australia adjacent to the Australian Institute of Marine Science facility. Volunteers are invited to join us to experience this fascinating aspect of the sea turtle life cycle.
When turtles are encountered we employ best practice guidelines to measure them and record tag numbers. In addition this year we will trial nest protectors designed to stop feral animals from digging up and eating eggs.
Groups are lead by an experienced turtle expert and are limited to 10 people. Turtle sightings cannot be guaranteed. Monitoring is timed to coincide with a high tide around dusk, the time most likely for turtles to come ashore to nest.
